As Southern As Possible

I've decided that I will, in addition to pursuing simplicity, be as southern as possible. I'm from Oklahoma, which isn't considered Southern, Midwestern or Southwestern. And since being an "Okie" isn't exactly something to brag about here in Texas I figured I'd just impose myself upon the South.

I am completely infatuated with the "Southern woman" lifestyle! I'm not sure what enchants me the most about southern women: the charm, the grace, the wit, the sweet tea or that accent.... My ear always perks when I hear Beth Moore, Paula Deen or my sweet boss Darla.

There's a sweet simplicity to the way of the South. Every southern woman I've ever met keeps her cool even when she's madder than a wet hen. Although, I wouldn't recommend messin' with her!

I did some research yesterday and found few books I may check out....
(the book at the top of the page, I'm going to put on my birthday list!)

Doesn't that book just look so sweet?

Dolly Parton endorsed this one - she's VERY Southern!

I don't know if this one is Southern or not but I like the idea of it!

This is another one I'm sure to buy/borrow soon!!!

Last but not least, The Grits Guide to Life!!!

Girls Raised in the South.

This could very well be my Southern Woman handbook.

Finally, this book HERE says exactly what I'd like to say to soooooo many parents...but I don't have the guts.

Oh Amanda... you are my soulmate!!! I TOTALLY agree about Southern women and have always wanted to be one! I was born in North Dakota. I think I am about as Yankee as they come.

But those books look amazing! You must tell me how they are... and if they work! ;)

God bless-
Amanda

I just found your blog and I love it! I am a Texan, born and raised, living in the DFW area. I loved your post about all things Southern! I so agree with you...I love the idea of Southern women and what they do with their homes, their faith, everything! I hope to be reading more from you soon...oh and I have that book that Dolly Parton endorsed in case you want to borrow it!

Blessings,
Becky

As a Southern woman whose roots run very, very deep in North Carolina (centuries, actually), I just wanted to tell you how much I loved reading this post. You are so right--there is something so dear and unique about our lifestyle, and yet, I must tell you, it is being infringed upon by other cultural influences now that so many people have figured out that the South is indeed a fantastic place to live (in spite of the humidity). The rat race tries to lure us in, along with a frantic and sometimes downright inconsiderate way of operating, and I am fightin' tooth and nail to stay out of it!

So, thank you for taking a moment to share your affection for all things Southern. And may I add that you are more than welcome into our "club". We're happy to have you. Being southern is as much a state of mind as it is a location. As my friend's kitchen sign indicates, "I'm not Southern. But I got here as quick as I could!"

God bless you, Amanda. Or, as we say here in the South, "Bless your heart."
