Not Another One...

I shouldn't really be shocked by all the new pop starlets running around.

Britney and Christina paved the way from The Mickey Mouse Club to the covers of Maxim many years ago and so many have followed in their footsteps.  Miley, Katy and Rihanna are some of the most visible pop stars and while at least one of them has not yet "graced" the cover of Maxim there are plenty of pictures floating around on TV and the internet that would not look out of place if printed in that publication.

I have to admit that, while I am so very disappointed in their lifestyles and lack of modesty, I get the appeal.  I totally get it.  I can't tell you how many times (even to my own disgust) I have caught myself singing along to Party in the USA and indulging in California Gurls.
(oh, and side note...why aren't we spelling things right anymore?)

This morning, on my way to work a local radio station was raving about
the latest pop princess:  Emily Osment.
(yes, the little sister to Haley Joel Osment of The Sixth Sense)

Apparently, she's from Disney's hot show - Hannah Montana.
Shocker right?

I'm not going to say that pop music is the reason for an increase in the teen pregnancy rate but I think we can all admit that songs like this certainly aren't helping the situation.  The Center for Disease control says that one-third of girls get pregnant before the age of 20.

I mean, who wants their little girl running around with lyrics like "Let's be friends so we can make out." in their heads?? I get that Emily is 18 but, really, who is her music geared toward?  Even just looking at the music video you can see that it's for high school aged girls.

Seriously.

As a girl's ministry leader and mom (of a boy, but still he's going to marry a girl someday) I am praying for a change in the tide.  I am hoping for a resurgence in modesty and self respect for our young ladies.
