Focused at Last!

I've got it!

If you've been following this blog at all you know that for a loooooong time I've been struggling with my "style" at home.

I flip flop from vintage 50s, to farm house to traditional. I even like the eclectic home style and the minimalist.

Sadly, I have some things that hold me back: for example: I enjoy hardwood but live in an apartment with carpet that I cannot change (renting). I love color on the walls but I can only have shades of white (renting). Oh, and the layout of the apartment is less than convenient.

I do, however, get to be creative with storage since we live in a tiny 950 sq. ft. home. For an organizer, this is an ideal situation!

Well, since I'm so indecisive and I want to make my home a haven for my husband I thought it would be wise to ask him how he'd prefer our home to look. He had some very strong opinions of our home.

First, he said he'd like to have a log cabin and a fireplace over which he could mount a deer head (I'm sorry, while I have nothing against hunting [for food] I just cannot hang dead animals in my home). Second, he said that he'd like to have a reproduction NASCAR hood suspended from the ceiling. I ignored that one!

Then, he told me he likes the traditional "put together look". Matching sofa and chairs...art on the walls...wall of crosses...stuff like that.

I found this picture in an ad by Pottery Barn and he loved it (the one above too). It's got my clean lines and his rustic addictions additions (the pine cone and organic prints).

All I want to do to "fix" this room is add some more white, red and green then add some farmhouse type antiques.
These are my goals in order to achieve this look:
1. Buy digital camera so I can document event (anyone have a good one I can buy for cheap?).

2. Find chair that I can slipcover for living room.

3. Sell big screen and save $$ from income tax return to buy tv and stand.

4. Keep an eye out at garage sales and thrift stores for good wall art.

5. Stay focused and don't get distracted by fun vintagey stuff.

So there...I think I've finally got it! Man, it feels good to be focused!
Let me ask you a question:
Is your home decorated in a such a way that it makes your husband comfortable and represents both of you? Does the way your home is decorated and operated represent the Lord well?

I'm all about clean lines, zero clutter and very traditional. My house is probably fairly similar to the pictures you posted, although my walls are various shades of olive green/tan/celery and mustard. My sofas in the family room are red, the ones in the living room are chocolate brown. I love nuetrals, zero clutter and simple art. My hubs likes it this way, too, although I'm not sure he could put it into words. I want our house to be restful and cozy. Have fun decorating!!

Hi Amanda,

As for the camera, I will glad you our digital camera - but don't get too excited, it's broken, but only about three years old and is most likely fixable. Either way, if you want to try, I will send it your way (some camera shop could probably fix it)! Just let me know!

As for Nascar - LOL!

Decorating - I am SO in the same boat as you...in fact, I drive my husband nutso! I am always changing my mind. The irony is that I have the hardwood floors, tan couch, light tan carpet, but don't know which colors I want to add! I seriously need pillows! :)

I think that I love a warm house. I have not quite figured it out yet but I try a little everyday... I like color but also rent. This makes it very difficult to make it work! I am glad that you figured it out!

I love that top picture...

My home is NOW decorated to support my gowing family... minimal and practical. I lvoe Shabby Chic/French Country (minimal of both) but none of that for me with small kids...

Hubby is a hunter and I have a six foot by six foot elk hanging in my front entry. Yup.

As for the Lord... how do you decorate for the Lord????

We dont have 666 painted on our ceiling or anything. :)

God bless-
Amanda
