Sharing Your Faith: Humility

Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
Matthew 23:12

The way we approach sharing our faith is of utmost importance.

First, we need to realize that sharing our faith is as much a privilege as it is our duty as Christians. Christian martyrdom is very real in the world we live in. As Mark Driscoll put it "Our God is a little offensive! Most of the people who REALLY liked Him got killed!" We are privileged to live in a country where we can share our faith openly without persecution.

Second, remember where you came from - you weren't born into salvation. "We too all previously lived among them in our fleshy desires... But God, who is abundant in mercy, because of His great love that he has for us, made us alive with the Messiah even though we were dead in our trespasses." Ephesians 2:3-5

One thing that really turns the lost off to the Gospel is the "holier than thou" attitude that many Christians have. I love this verse in Ephesians because it serves as a strong reminder that we were once lost too. None of us are good - no, not one! Even in our salvation we are not good - we are in the process of being made good (sanctification) but we still fall into sin (or dive right in, to be truthful). We are saved by His grace and not our works.

Finally, we need not be so haughty as to think that some one's salvation hinges upon us. We are merely God's mouthpiece in this process. HE does the work of salvation - not us. We plant the seed and He brings it to life.

"Some wish to live within the sound of a chapel bell;

I wish to run a rescue mission within a yard of hell."
