Solid Rock

As I've started this journey toward a more simple life I've come to realize, there's not much that's simple about it. Chasing simplicity is a lot like chasing your own tail; at least it is for me. It's kind of an elusive goal, a life long one for sure.

Totally worth it in my book, though.

Here are a few things that I've learned you need in order to gain any kind of simplicity...

1. Faith in Christ
2. Wisdom
3. Self Control
4. Hard work
5. Grace and Flexibility

First off, I can do NOTHING apart from Christ (John 15:5). He should be the complete motivation and focus of my days. He is sure. He is faithful. He is unchanging. He is gracious. He gives peace. He gives hope. He gives joy. He is LORD.

What could be more simple than serving one single loving Lord?
Because of my faith in Christ, I don't worry about the future. I don't fret about eternity. I do not have to search for the Truth because, as Sarah Groves says, ""I don't claim to have found the truth but I know it has found me."

THE SOLID ROCK

Keith W. Ward

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

Refrain:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

—Edward Mote (1797-1874)

I love Solid Rock. You make me smile!
Simplicity is complicated, isn't it? Ironic, huh?
I'm proud of you for your quest for simplicity.
It makes me feel like buying crisp, white sheets and putting flowers from a field in a pitcher. Maybe I'll do both. :)
