It's That Time Again

Every year right before Christmas I go into strike mode. I want nothing to do with cooking, cleaning, crafting or organizing.

Right around this time of year I just want to buy Christmas presents, put up the decor, go out to eat, hang out with friends and sleep. That's it. BUT - about a week before Christmas I start panicking because my house is a WRECK, all the food in my house has gone bad since we've been eating out and I have a ton of presents to wrap.

So here are the things I need to do before Christmas:

1. Buy presents for Ethan (bad mom, right here!)
2. Clean up his room and shampoo his carpet
3. Tackle Laundry Mountain
4. Organize paperwork for the New Year
5. Work on weight loss plan (I'm really bad at losing weight)
6. Clean out the garage
7. Prepare a Christmas Day Bible study for the family

This Weekend

Friday night my mom surprised us by offering to watch Ethan all night. This is probably the second or third time this year she's offered to do that so David and I didn't argue. We don't really know what to do with ourselves without Ethan so we did what any sane, rational couple would do: we went to Bass Pro Shop.

Afterward we went to see Four Christmases, with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon. At first we were offended by the movie then we could see where it was going to go and so we weren't as offended. Then, by about the 3/4 mark we were so offended by one blasphemous scene that we almost walked out. By the time we got up, the part was over and we decided to stay for the rest of the movie. Especially considering it cost us $18 just for the movie.

Saturday I got up to go clean a house which gave us some extra money for some Christmas shopping. Bath and Body Works at the Southlake Town Square was INSANE! I've never seen a line there that was so long. I mean, you hear all of this about a recession and poor commercial sales but apparently that does not affect the US's most affluent city: Southlake, TX.

Anyway...after waiting in line for 45 minutes I bought all the gifts I needed for HALF of that I had budgeted! The sales in that store were AWESOME!

Then we went to a family birthday party. My husband's birthday was the 10th, my aunt's and her twin brother's birthday was the 11th, and my aunts brother in law's birthday was the 12th so we all had a huge party together. It was a GREAT time! I love my family.

Then, my aunt and uncle insisted that we allow Ethan to stay the night with them. Since E had been kind of crazy that night we resisted initially but they are very persuasive and even pointed out that we could sit in church together without having to manage our little guy. After that point, we were sold!

Sunday, I woke up with a cold I am certain I got from Kate. (Thanks, friend! Haha.) Seriously, I barely made it through the sermon awake - and it was a REALLY good sermon. Afterwards, we went to lunch with my aunt and uncle and got Ethan back. He had a very good time with them.

Then I took a 3 hour nap.

Then the three of us went out to eat for David's birthday and to watch the Cowboy game, which they won. Afterwards we went to Tom Thumb to buy some groceries.

They have the best deals AND they double/triple coupons...we saved a whopping $78 last night! It was GREAT! The most insane thing of all was how quickly a cold front came up.

When we walked into Tom Thumb at 8:15 it was about 69 degrees outside. It was SO nice! When we came out of Tom Thumb at 9:05 it was 47 degrees outside with very strong winds that brought the temperature down to about 32 degrees (wind chill).

It was CRAZY.

Ok......so I'm sick and rambling. Please forgive me and don't make fun of my spelling/grammatical errors.

Thanks.

Your list looks a bit like mine, although I got a wild hair last week and decided to clean the carpets, so that is done!

It's freezing here, too!

hey friend,

Sorry I've been so bad about commenting. I often want to strike around holiday time too. How did my grandma and mom do it I wonder? I don't like being the main person to have to juggle it all. How did they do it and stay so pleasant and happy? May we soon learn the secret!!
