The one who is taught the message must share his goods with the teacher. Don't be deceived; God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows he will also reap, because the one who sows to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don't' give up.
Therefore, as we have opportunity, we must work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith.
- Galatians 6:6-10
Those are some strong words up there - and I was totally humbled by them today.
How often do we run around and do things that we want to do knowing that they are sins and not really worrying about the consequences? How often do we allow our thought lives to take us away into hatred or covetousness or lust? How often do we read the Word or hear sermons and skip right over the parts that make us uncomfortable or we don't "agree" with? How often do we blow off what the Word says (or good Biblical preaching, for that matter) because we're not called to do something? Or how often do we hear the Word, agree with the Word and then go on about our lives as usual?
God is not fooled, folks. He knows when we think thoughts we shouldn't. He knows when we do things we should not - even when the door is shut or the light is off. He knows when we blow off His good and HOLY Word. He knows.
He is also good, gracious and righteous. He has given us exactly what we need to follow Him the right way. He has given us His Word as a light unto our paths and the Holy Spirit as a guarantee for the inheritance to come - and also as a teacher and a guide.
We cannot walk in the flesh and expect to reap the Spirit. We can, however, expect to be disciplined. Just as a father, in love, disciplines his child; so does the Lord discipline us. He loves us. He wants us to learn from the things that we do so that we can become more like Him, tell others about Him and so that we may glorify Him in all things.
I'm not saying that we should be legalistic and have a list of "Do's" and "Do Not's". What I am saying is that we should be actively working for good for all people - believers or not. We should pray daily that the Lord would give us what we need to walk in His ways. We should pray that we would be sensitive to the sting of our conscience and the prompts of the Holy Spirit. We should be constantly looking at the things that we love and making sure they bring honor and glory to him.
So come on...let's look at our lives and see if we're using all the Lord has blessed us with (health, wealth, intelligence, time, gifts, disabilities, passions, etc.) to glorify Him and spread His name.

Excellent! Convicting, and also words that give me a reason to praise the Lord. For the inheritance is mine, not because of my merit, but because of the cross of Jesus Christ. He took on my sin so that I could stand blameless before a Holy God who would be JUST to punish me, especially when I read His word, agree with it and continue to sin! Thank you so much for this! Praise the Lord for how He has been so Good to this sinner.
