Lurkers of the Non-Bloggy Kind

On Thursday night I came home at about midnight from hanging out with Kate.

We pulled into my apartment complex and made a right turn to go down my "street" and there was a strange man walking very quickly down the road with a hoodie on his head. He looked very suspicious!

Then, we finally get to the breezeway that leads to my front door. Kate and I both look down the breezeway and there's a strange man sitting outside of my door on a bike. So, naturally we start reversing the car to get away from the lurker. We decided that I should call David and have him come and walk me from the car to the door.

While I was on the phone calling David over and over and over hoping to wake him up to meet me, we were driving circles around the parking lot of my apartment complex. The first circle we made, we saw him sitting (not riding) on his bike in another breezeway. The next circle, he was gone. Then we saw him again in another breezeway...it alternated like this until we finally got David on the phone.

He told me to give him 2 minutes and he'd be out there. So Kate and I drove up to my breezeway again to wait for David. While we were sitting there I had my phone out, ready to dial 911 since we didn't see him in any of the breezeways heading back to wait for David.

Finally, David came out of the front door and made the turn to go down the breezeway - when he did the guy ran out from under the stairwell where he had to have been waiting for me to come home!!! There is nothing under our stairwell that would interest anybody. Seriously.

So, when the guy ran out from under the stairwell after David came out to get me, I jumped out of Kate's car and ran past him to see if I could see the guy but he was gone. David made me go inside and call the police. The dispatcher said that the officers were on their way as I gave her the best description I could. She told me to stay up and wait for them, they'd most likely want to talk to me.

I decided to clean up the house a bit before the officers knocked so that I wasn't embarrassed when they came by. Suddenly, Benny started barking like a wild man so I checked the peep hole and saw my neighbor walking his dogs. I went out there to let him know that there were people lurking around our building and that I didn't want him to be caught off guard by anyone. He thanked me and let me know that the cops were already there and that he saw one of them with a bike. I went to see if they had found somebody but I didn't want to get too close. I could see the cops, though, and it looked like they were talking to somebody.

I decided to go on inside and wait for them to come by my door. At 2am I finally decided to go outside to see if they were still there. I grabbed the cell phone that was dialed to 911, ready for me to send to call, and David's pocket knife as protection then set out.

They were gone. They never came over to ask me questions or let me know what happened...they just left. So I ran inside and went to bed...kinda. I tossed and turned all night long.

We're going to buy me some pepper spray very soon. Very very soon...till then my knight in shining armor has to come escort me from my car to the door. I think he likes it.
