The Pit Bull with Lipstick

DID YOU GUYS HEAR HER LAST NIGHT? WOW!!

Seriously, I was pretty impressed with her before last night but, now, I'm completely on board.

You know the part that got me the most: when she spoke to all of us mom's of special needs children. It will be nice to have a friend in the White House who will stand up for our children. I hope McCain/Palin get elected for many reasons, but this is a major one for me. Hopefully while they are in office there can be some major reforms in regards to the care for special needs children.

Many parents of special needs children can barely afford treatments (or can't afford them at all); cannot find qualified, affordable childcare (so they can work to afford treatment); cannot schedule most treatments because of work schedule (seriously, why can't we get some more weekend or after hours specialists?); and sadly, many of these children have just slipped through the cracks.

Oh, and when her little girl was wetting down her baby brother's hair - Hubs and I nearly died laughing! It was SO cute!

And that joke she told: What's the difference between hockey moms and a put bull? .....Lipstick. That won some major points with my husband. He said "She is making the biggest speech of her life and cracking jokes. I'll vote for her." That's responisble voting right there, folks. I love my husband.

Anyway...enough about that...

Ethan's parent/teacher conference went well yesterday. Yes, yes, it's the second week of school and we've already had a conference and he has already gone to the principal's office. Anyway, they believe Ethan can qualify for special education so they are talking to the diagnostician and will be testing him in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, he will qualify and he will be able to get the services he needs in order to go through school successfully.

Tomorrow I'm going to post about my frustration with Shepherding a Child's Heart (SCH) as it compares to every other parenting book. SCH is an amazing book, but having a special needs little boy and reading everything that's thrown at me in regards to parenting a special needs child...well....I'll stop there, the rest is for my post tomorrow.

Oh, and here's a conversation Ethan and I had this morning:

Ethan: Mom, I'm a guitar hero.

Me: Oh you are? Wow. That's pretty cool!

Ethan: Yeah. I keep rockin' and I'm growing now.

Me: Is that so? Well, you just keep rockin', buddy.

Wait. You aren't supposed to pick your candidate on humor? I thought this was like Miss America, I was just waiting for the swim suit competition before I came to a complete decision.

Good luck with Ethan - I really hope he's able to get the services he needs. It's sad and frustrating as a teacher to see kids who don't "qualify" for some reason or another when it's obvious they need an extra helping hand.

I look forward to reading your thoughts on Shepherding.
