Bible Study Notes

Hey ladies! Here are the notes from the Bible study last night.

Attributes of the Bible (cont.)

1. The Bible is Effective
- Isaiah 55:11 - God's Word will do (and has done) what is says it will do.
- 1 Thess 1:5 - The Word of God, it isn't just words, it's powered by the Holy Spirit.

2. The Bible is Determinative
- How you respond to the Word of God determines the essence of your life and your eternal destiny.
- John 8:47 - The determination of whether an individual is of God or not of God is based on whether he listens to the Word of God
- 1 Cor 2:9 - Man could never conceive in his own humanness, in his own logic all that God has prepared for him. He could also never conceive of God's dominion on his own or that he would be a part of it.
- 1 Cor 2:10-12 - There are basically two kinds of people in the world: the ones who receive the Word of God and the ones who do not because they cannot.
- 2 Cor 3 14-16 - People who know God have the Holy Spirit and therefore can receive the Word of God. People who are non-believers cannot receive the Word of God because they have not the Holy Spirit.
- When you come to an understanding of the spiritual meaning and application of a Scripture passage, God's Spirit has been at work.
- Reading and understanding the Bible doesn't lead you to an encounter with God...it IS an encounter with God.

Authenticity of the Bible
There are five basic areas that prove the Bible is true, yesterday we only covered this one:

1. Experience
- The Bible gives the experience it claims it will.
- For example: 1 John 1:19 says that He is faithful and just to forgive our sins. How do you know, when you have confessed your sins and repented, that He has actually forgiven then?
---Along with assurance and peace He gives us the experience of freedom from guilt.
- Millions of people all over the world are living proof that the Bible is true because of experience.
- Do NOT base the authenticity of the Bible solely on experience, it is one of 5 areas! If you base everything on experience you're going to run into some people who have had some pretty wild experiences!

Follow Up Questions:
1. What passage of Scripture has God used in your life to grip you and give you a fresh understanding?

2. What are some way you can respond when God's Spirit reveals his truth through Scripture?

All right...so those are the notes for last night! Oh and our memory verse for this week is Psalm 19:7 - "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;"

Love you guys!
